West Coast Swing
with Cas Winter
When Cas isn’t coaching, they’re a west coast swing dancer, instructor, and choreographer specializing in both following and leading at the same high level. As a child they trained in ballet, tap, and jazz, and in college they discovered partner dancing. After a few years of leading and following ballroom, latin, swing, Argentine Tango, and blues, they decided to specialize in their favorite, west coast swing. While they prefers to follow socially, they love leading and compete in both roles. They love nerding out about the intricacies of WCS body mechanics and connection with their students and on their podcast with Alicia Marshal, Nerdy WCS.
Nerdy WCS
with Cas Winter & Alicia Marshall
Each week, professional dancers and teachers Cas Winter and Alicia Marshall host a free Zoom class, where they analyze pro West Coast Swing videos and give students feedback on their dancing.
Often the difference between a dance student that excels and a student who struggles, lies not in their physical ability, but instead in how well they’re able to see. Having a well trained eye as a dancer allows you to see and understand what your teachers aren’t saying (either because of time time constraints, class level, or assumptions about students’ existing knowledge). At Nerdy WCS, Cas Winter and Alicia Marshall use their combined 40 years of solo and partner dancing experience to help students of all levels train their eyes so they can become both better students, and better dancers.

Alicia Marshall
Alicia has been dancing and performing for most of her life, and in the last decade has also added teaching and choreography to her repertoire. With an extensive background of not only dance but music, singing, and gymnastics as well, she has the unique ability to help break down and bring together every aspect of dance for her students. Through her younger years, Alicia was trained in Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, and Tap. As she grew older she was introduced to the world of dance teams and in turn some new styles including Pom, Kickline, and Character/Show routines. However, after also learning ballroom and latin post college, Alicia decided that with WCS in particular, she feels she’s best able to combine all of her past experience to share her passion and life with others.
